Free Flower Growing Guide

Growing cut flowers in Florida zone 10a is challenging, but absolutely possible. And in some cases, we even get advantages in our climate. How about our extended growing season? And NO FROST!

Okay, so the humidity is intense, and bugs looooove that. Also we get tons of rain, and the blight and powdery mildew think that's fantastic. But there are simple, cost effective, people-pet-pollinator safe methods to prevent the bad guys from taking over.

When I hear or read that a certain flower variety can't be grown here, I'm basically like, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. And so far, they've all grown here. Do I fail and kill some plants in the process? You bet your ass I do. But when I saw that first hollyhock bloom burst open, or harvested my first ever lisianthus (yes, from seed!), holy shit it's worth it.

I want you to meet these flowers in your garden spaces. If you need a little help, or a lot of help, I'm here for you.

Magic Spray

We love our pollinator friends! Also we love our dog. And ourselves. So we use this pet safe, people safe, and pollinator safe "magic spray" to keep pests at bay, and also to control fungal and bacterial things that, quite frankly, looooove our hot and humid weather.

Just mix the following in one gallon of water:
2T baby shampoo
2T vegetable oil
2T baking soda

Shake well and apply with a spray bottle.
Apply every 5-7 days for prevention, and apply as often as every 3 days if needed. Give your plants a big drink of water the day before you spray, and never spray in full sun during the hottest part of the day.
